If there is anything that prevents your organic garden from yielding the best vegetables, it will have to be the pests that invade and surround your area. Now, if you are really serious about controlling those pests and keeping them out of your garden for good, a volume of materials is readily available for you to be equipped and knowledgeable about the various types of pests that can threaten your crop.

The very hard thing about pest control is the fact that there are so many types of pests that can invade your garden; it will really be quite a challenge to recall them in one sitting, so full immersion to your gardening activities is the only surefire way to inculcate ample knowledge on pests to watch out for.

One of the tried and tested tactics for pest control is by familiarizing yourself with the famous insects and animals. These enemies of the garden will really hamper the growth of your crop only if you let them.

Beetles

You have two options for beetles: manually remove them by hand or spray them with insecticide that is poisonous to them. If left untreated, beetles have the capacity to bore so much holes on your leaves and eat away at your vegetation over time, especially when their population has already burgeoned. Beetles comes in a variety of types, but the remedy for it is usually the two techniques mentioned above.

Aphids

You will often find sticky groups of insects that are invading your garden in hues of red if you have aphids in your garden. Fortunately, you can easily remedy this by spraying it with soap insecticide or any similar material. Aphids are common to almost every garden vegetable you can possibly imagine, so if you are growing vegetables, you are most likely to encounter these sticky organisms.

Cabbage Worms

Neem oil is the cabbage worms' worst enemy, so if you spray them with it, they will be out of your garden in a jiffy. The thing is, you can determine whether cabbage worm are in the garden if you find green caterpillar and holes on the leaves of your plants. You can also pick them by hand if you are more courageous or maybe spray them with insecticide if you don't have neem oil handy at the time of infestation.

Cut Worms

If you see crawling, dull caterpillars that are brown in color, then you have found cutworms invading your territory! Placing paper collars around plants after digging around the area may help prevent cutworms from taking up your precious soil and nutrients. Some chemicals may also work like insecticides, but this is a general cure. You also need to dig a lot because the cut worms have this tendency to snuggle up on your plants for shade and life.

Maggots

Maggots are extremely disgusting, and they tend to make your landscape ugly if you do not try to get rid of them. Bleaching is one of the best ways to get rid of maggots. If your organic garden is also situated beside a garbage bag, you may choose to transfer your garbage bag elsewhere because leftover meals like meat tend to attract these maggots and they might decide to branch out of the garbage bin and into your garden.

There are many other kinds of pests that you can control in your garden given the right handy tools and knowledge on how to best eliminate them from your organic garden.

Choosing The Best Plants For Your Garden

Excited, that’s how you felt when you saw that space in your backyard. And you bought some plants, but without even considering first what kind of soil you have at your garden, or perhaps, without planning carefully what kind of plants will survive. Now your garden is a mess. Think it over.

Before buying plants you should be attentive of where are you going to place the plants in the garden – shade-loving plants for the sheltered areas, sun-lovers for the warm spots, drought-resistant plants for the parched areas which may be either sunny or shaded, and swamp plants for the poorly-drained parts. Once you decided with your selections it is time to choose how you are going to position them in your garden.

Take a look at these pointers:

What to plant

Do you want fruits, vegetables, flowers? Remember to start small; you can always increase the size of your garden if you choose to. But do it gradually. This is particularly important if you're in a budget, of course.

Test your soil first, to determine the pH level of your soil and what kind of nutrients you need to add. You can alter the garden soil's pH. However, it is a lot easier to maintain a garden without having to alter it's soil's pH level. This calls for choosing plants that will survive with the kind of pH your garden soil has.

Plant in groups

One good rule of the green thumb is to buy at least one of the many varieties of small plants. However, a "one of everything" method of plant selection tends to make the garden seem spotty whereas plants placed in groups makes it more organized.

Positioning the Plants

Before planting your chosen plants, you can either let them be in their pots first and arrange them according to how you plan to position them in your garden. Grouping plants in sets of threes or fives usually looks better than planting in groups of even numbers. Be sure that you have an interesting combination of colors and textures of plants.

Color of the plants

The right color scheme is one way to maintain the harmonious ambience in your garden. Imagine the color of the flowers when they are in bloom. Some plants may have flowers that would not look good with other flowers but they can be planted alongside if they have different blooming season. Foliage color does not have to be confined to green. Look for plants that have other colors for their leaves if it such suits your taste.

Having a bad credit score can hurt you in every area of your life – not just in the ability to take out loans.

Employers in many circumstances can run credit checks, and a bad credit score might be the deciding factor in giving the job you applied for, to an equally well-qualified candidate with a better credit score.

If you want to rent a home, or a car, or even buy a new cell phone – you guessed it – a bad credit score can hurt you.

So what kinds of things will hurt your credit score?

Maxing out your credit cards – try very, very hard not to borrow or charge more than 50 percent of the amount that you are allowed to borrow. If you go above that, it will hurt your credit score. Do not charge your cards to the limit.

Late payments – late payments are devastating to your credit. Payment history makes up about 35 percent of your credit score. To make sure that you don’t skip a payment, go on autopilot – arrange to have all of your payments withdrawn automatically form your bank account. That way you will never have to worry that the check is in the mail.

Applying for a bunch of credit cards or for any loans.

Closing down old credit card accounts. Lenders want to see a long payment history. The longer that you have had a credit card account open and have made on-time payments, the more this helps your credit score.

Having a tax lien placed against you

Declaring Bankruptcy

So what is a good credit score?

Anything above 700 is considered excellent.

600 to 690s – okay, but not ideal. These days, with tightening credit standards – may not be enough to get you approved for a house, and certainly not for the best rates.

Below 600 – you’re considered a high credit risk.

Below 550 – really, really bad.

If you are in debt and concerned about paying it off, you’re probably aware that too much debt, late payments, or worse, missed payments, can negatively effect your credit score.

But what is a credit score? And how can you find out what yours is?

Fair Isaac Corporation was founded in the 1950s by an engineer named Bill Fair and a mathematician named Earl Isaac, to create a credit scoring system. They built their first credit scoring system in 1956.

As the years went on the Fair Isaac Corporation developed ever more sophisticated credit scoring systems and software to predict people’s credit-worthiness.

The more likely it is that someone will default on a loan, the higher their interest rates will be.

So now, when a lending institution is considering whether to give someone a loan, they generally go to one of three major credit reporting agencies to get that person’s credit score before deciding whether to give them a loan at all – and deciding what that interest rate will be.

The three agencies are Equifax, Transunion, & Experian. Where does Fico come in? All of these agencies use FICO software information to determine your credit score, ranging from 300 to 850, with most Americans falling in the 600s to 700s. These days, with tightening credit standards, a credit score in the 700s is often necessary to get a mortgage loan, especially one with a good rate.

Here are the factors that FICO takes into account when calculating your credit score:

Payment history: 35 percent – Don’t pay late!
Amounts Owed: 30 Percent – Don’t borrow too much in proportion to your credit history!
Length of Credit History: Older credit cards with regular on-time payments help build good credit
New Credit: Number of recent accounts opened, number of recent credit inquiries – applying for a lot of loans at the same time hurts your credit
Types of Credit Used: Credit cards, retail store accounts, installment loans, mortgage loan, etc.

You can look at your credit report for free by going to www.annualcreditreport.com and requesting it. They are obligated to provide you with one free copy of your credit report every 12 months. They are the only site authorized by the Federal Government to provide this service.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends that you link to them directly from their site http://www.ftc.gov/freereports to make sure that you are going to the official site. To see your credit score – not your credit report – you must purchase it, from one of the three credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian, or Transunion.

When you’ve got numerous bills and you need to pay down debt, it can be challenging figuring out which bills to tackle first.

In fact, for many people it is so overwhelming that they put it off completely, making late payments – which trash their credit – or try to please everyone by writing a bunch of checks that end up bouncing – and none of this ends up being productive.

However, if you look at the process logically, it becomes very easy to see what order you should choose to pay off your bills.

First of all, and most importantly:

You need to pay your rent/mortgage, utilities, grocery bills, and car payments. Income tax is also a priority because if you have a tax lien taken out against you, this is something that can devastate your credit rating for many years to come.

You need to set aside at least SOME money for savings – even if it’s only $50 a month.

Beyond that – you need to make a list of all the debts that you have and find out the interest rate on each debt.

Paying the minimum that you owe is a disaster. If you can afford to pay more than the minimum on all of these debts, more power to you.

However, if you can’t afford to do that, you need to pick the debt – probably a credit card debt – with the highest interest rate, and make it your goal to pay off that debt first.

So put some extra money towards that payment every month, until that debt is paid off.

If all that you can afford to pay is the minimum on the other debts, so be it.

When you need to pay down debt and you are focusing on one credit card instead of your giant mountain of bills, you will be surprised and pleased at how quickly you see the balance on that credit card shrink.

You will find yourself setting aside money to put towards that bill…paying close attention every month to how much you owe, not hiding from it…and you will be thrilled when that bill is finally paid off.

And then you will move the next high interest bill to the top of the list, and you will do this one by one until you are free of high interest bills.

Yes, this may take a couple of years to accomplish, but this way there is an end in sight and you will no longer feel so trapped and hopeless.

Your friend has decided that you need help with your social life so she sets you up with a blind date….a friend of a friend of a friend. You, foolishly, accept. Now there you are. It’s less than one hour since you were introduced. You are sitting in a Thai restaurant and you hate Thai food. The entrée has not yet been served. His idea of enlightened conversation is who will be in the final four…you aren’t into sports. He knows the weekly TV schedule verbatim….you haven’t sat through a movie in months because you run marathons and volunteer at the local food bank. He says, “Volunteering is a waste of time because you can’t help ‘those people’ anyway.” You look at your watch; see that it’s only been 10 minutes since you last looked at it the last time and wonder how long it is before you can gracefully remove yourself from the situation. Been there?

Now imagine a date with someone you met through internet dating and have been chatting online with and exchanging emails with for quite some time. First, you don’t need to be introduced. You already know this man. You are sitting in an Italian restaurant enjoying a delightful meal because you both know that the other’s favorite is Italian. The conversation flows easily as you discuss common interests. He runs marathons and loves history just like you do. You happily discuss the volunteer work that each of you is involved in. You look at your watch and discover that it is late…very late…where Has the time gone.

There is a big difference between a well-intentioned friend “setting you up” and choosing a man for yourself who shares your interests and tastes, isn’t there? Now which one would you rather have?

With the explosion of online dating sites has come a virtual smorgasbord of choices. There are free dating sites… I don’t recommend those but if money is a real concern, they are better than nothing. There are the large paid sites with many and varied features like chat, IM and even matching using profiles. There are the less expensive paid sites with few features. There are special interest sites for almost any thing you can think of…outdoor enthusiasts, couch potatoes, religious, non-religious, gays, lesbians…like I said…almost anything you can think of. So what’s a girl to do? A girl should choose the right dating site or sites that best fit her needs.

Here are some things to consider:

(1) Cost. How much do you want or how much can you spend each month for your membership (s)?
(2) Features. Which features are the most important to you?
(A) Profile matching systems. Is this a feature you really want or would you rather decide who is right for you all by yourself?
(B) Chat and IM’s? There are websites who offer chat rooms and IM’s on their sites. Does that matter or would you be happy just sticking to private email.
(C) Outside Events…such as speed dating? Are you interested in that?
(D) Privacy. Some websites allow you to limit who can view your picture or your profile. Does this matter to you or do you want as wide exposure as you can have?
(E) Safety. There are websites who do background checks of all subscribers and certify their age, marital status and background. Would you feel safer using this feature?

These are a few things but not all things you should consider when choosing an online dating service or services. Do your homework and choose wisely for the best results for you.

Have you noticed that the “organic” section of your grocery store has grown exponentially in the last few years? This type of food, as it clearly seems, has ceased to be a fad of hippies and environmental nuts. Organic foods are everywhere and you can find them alongside other vegetables and fruits in your local stores and markets. So how about the vegetables and fruits you grow at home?

Have you made the leap to this source of healthy food yet or do you still have a lot of pesticides on your garden shelf? Let’s take a look at how you can transform your regular garden into a delight of organic vegetables. It doesn’t take much and you won’t have as many problems with insects or poor soil as you thought.

Organic gardens are different from regular gardens in the way that the plants are fertilized and in the way that pests are controlled in the garden. True professionals use only natural products and materials and shy away from any synthetic materials that could be harmful to the environment or to those who consume the produce.

Just like conventional gardens, and perhaps a bit more so, organic gardens take a great deal of work. You may need to plan for a few healthy meals when the vegetable or fruit is in season and leave it at that. On the other hand, an organic farmer may decide to can their vegetables or otherwise store them for when they are longer in season. Clearly, a bigger garden is in store in that situation. Make sure your garden has a steady water supply and that the soil drains well into the ground.

Remember that organic fertilizers and conditioners work more slowly than the synthetic variety so mix up the soil with your fertilizer at least three weeks before you actually plant. Make sure you remove any organic materials that haven’t rotted yet and any weeds or unwanted plants.

Fertilizers usually mean using animal manures, plant manures, compost or a mixture of different types of organic fertilizers. Some parts of the world rely on human waste but, generally, that’s not recommended.

Your organic fertilizer will remove the hardness of the soil and improve its overall condition. The soil will be able to hold both water and nutrients much better after fertilizing it. In addition, organic fertilizer buffers the soil so it is more stable to extremes of acidity or alkalinity. In many cases, the microbiology of the soil improves and the added nutrients will gradually release themselves as the plants grow.

Organic plant fertilizer will add healthy nitrogen to the soil in a process called “nitrification”. Nitrogen is a necessary nutrient for the growth of most gardens—even conventional ones. Compost piles help organic gardens by improving the usable nitrogen component of the soil.

Animal manures make for the best type of fertilizer for the average organic garden. It needs to have been aged for at least 30 days to make the nitrogen more usable. The manure varies depending on the type of the animal, the way the animal was fed and even the condition of the animal. After letting the soil rest with the animal manure, you’re ready to plant and grow the healthiest garden possible.

The sooner you realize that Mr. Perfect does not exist, sad but true fact, the sooner you can get on with finding Mr. Close-Enough-To-Perfect. Prince Charming, riding on a white stallion, lost his way or found Princess Charming and got married on his way to your castle. Get over it and get on with it. You ARE going to have to actively seek the man of your dreams and you won’t find him hiding under your bed. You already know that he isn’t among the men that you are acquainted with so, now what? Online dating is “what”.

It’s true that online dating, while in its infancy, was only made up of perverts, sexual predators, nerds and weirdoes but that is no longer true. It has become the main tool of the single person in every developed country in the world. Forty million people can’t all be wrong. Ask your girl friends if they have ever used online dating or are using it now. If they are honest with you, most of them have or are now members of at least one online dating site and maybe more than one. It really is the way to go to meet eligible men who want to meet you. It doesn’t matter what any of your numbers are…like age, height, weight or income either. Somewhere out there in the big wide world there is a man who will like you…..then love you….and think that you are beautiful and desirable. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is true. What is considered beautiful in one part of the world is completely different from what is considered beautiful in another part of the world. It’s even different from one part of this country to another.

Find an Online Dating Site that fits your needs. Write a great profile and post a flattering picture. Start contacting eligible men on the site. Mr. Close-enough-to-perfect could be a few mouse clicks away.

Really young children just don’t understand the concept of giving on particular holidays. Buying dad a tie or a coffee mug just doesn’t mean much to them. Young kids love to make things, though, so here are some common crafts that kids make for Father’s Day that you could try.

Dough Handprints – Using ordinary flour dough, which you can make at home your child can press their hand print into the soft substance. Put a name and a year on it, and then bake for several hours. Now you have a great gift for dad for Father’s Day that symbolized that particular year in his child’s life.

Print and Color Cards – Definitely the easiest craft for kids to make is a card. You can just use construction paper folded in half to create your card, or you can print out pictures from your computer, glue them onto the card and color. A nice Father’s Day gift that kids can be proud of.

Picture Frames – Using picture frames from discount or dollar stores, kids can use various paints and glitter glue to make it unique and special. Messages like “Happy Father’s Day” or “#1 Dad” will always make the frame a treasured gift.

Hand-print T-Shirts – Using a plain t-shirt, all the kids in the family pick a color of fabric paint and put their hand-print on the shirt. Mom or older siblings can write special Father’s Day messages on the shirt, as well as put the kids’ names under the prints.

Colorful Coupons – What could dad need more than an hour of quiet? What would he enjoy more than breakfast in bed? What would he like more than a clean car? Well, he can get all that and more with homemade Father’s Day coupons! You can print them off your computer and have the young children color them. Just remember – don’t make a coupon that the kids couldn’t actually do!

Original Neckties – Why go buy dad a tie with a silly design on it? Just let your kids make one for him! With puffy fabric paints, kids can have a ball making dad his new neckwear.

Crafts for dad are easily found in books and on the internet. If you’d like to find crafts that kids make for Father’s Day, those are good places to start looking.
